Eric Boullier says Red Bull Racing are pushing hard to get Kimi Raikkonen – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that Red Bull Racing are pushing hard to get their driver, Kimi Raikkonen in their squad after the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Mark Webber of Red Bull has decided to retire from F1 at the conclusion of this season and the team is now searching for a potential candidate to drive alongside Sebastian Vettel in the next year. Raikkonen has been considered as the most favourite option
to fill the vacancy at the Milton Keynes based team because of his tremendous talent and driving skills.
Boullier has asserted that the defending champions are trying their best to get the Finnish driver and they have put a very nice proposal before him. However, he expressed that he is not worried about the proposals and stated that it is completely up to
Raikkonen to decide whether he wants to stay or leave.
“It is true that Red Bull is pushing hard to get Kimi on board and I am sure that they will put together a very nice proposal for him, even easing his PR life,” he told the official F1 website. “But again: it will be Kimi's decision.”
In addition, he said that they have done some meetings with the 33-year-old regarding his contract extension and have offered him the best possible options.
“We have spent some time talking already - and we will sit down again,” the team principal of Lotus added. “We will offer what we believe is the best for Kimi and for us.”
The 2007 world champion has impressed everyone with his amazing performances after his comeback in the last season. Although, he could only claim one victory in the previous year, he successfully secured third place in the drivers’ championship with 207
points.
At present, he is standing at third position in the drivers’ championship with 116 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and behind his major rival, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
It will be exciting to see how he performs in the forthcoming races and whether he stays at Lotus or not after this season.
