Eric Boullier says Renault did not receive too much from Nick Heidfeld during races – Formula 1 news
Lotus-Renault boss Eric Boullier has said that they have not received too much from Nick Heidfeld in the 2011 Formula 1 season’s races so far.
Boullier added that after viewing the performance of Heidfeld in the races so far, they took the decision to replace Bruno Senna with him for the 2011 Belgium Grand Prix.
The team boss further stated that they are not blaming Heidfeld for their disappointing results since the last few rounds. He mentioned that Renault’s R31 car was not good enough to compete among the strong teams during the last couple of races.
Boullier discussed the German’s performance in the season so far and said, “Nick is a nice guy, but I think something did not work. His leadership didn't work in the team and when you are sometimes slower than Vitaly, in fact most of the time slower than
Vitaly, it is difficult for him to push the team and to settle himself as the team leader.”
He went on to mention, “So I had to change something in the team and I had to change some things with the drivers as well to shake up and wake up everybody. I need to bring this motivation back to make sure that we can shake up everything, and it is not
easy.”
Bruno Senna took part in the first and second Friday Free Practice sessions for the team on August 26, 2011, at Spa-Francorchamps. He completed 7 laps in the morning Practice session and after struggling with R31 car he came at the 23rd position
when he crashed his R31. His teammate Petrov was at the 22nd place in the first session in Belgium.
Senna made improvements in his run during the afternoon session and finally finished his run in the 17th spot for the Enstone-based outfit. Petrov had a power steering issue in the second Practice session and due to that,
he was pushed back to the field. He ended up at the 24th place after struggling with a power steering issue in the second Practice session.
Let’s see how Senna performs in qualifying round on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Spa-Francorchamps.
