Eric Boullier says Renault have to focus on Canadian Grand Prix qualifying round – Formula 1 news
Renault boss Eric Boullier has said that his team will have to focus on the qualifying round of the Canadian Grand Prix and make race progress over there.
Boullier admitted that the team has shown decent pace during the race days of the 2011 season so far, but their qualifying round pace was still an issue. Their driver Nick Heidfeld has managed to start his race only twice in the top ten in the ongoing season.
The team boss insisted that Heidfeld needs to manage a pole during the qualifying session in the upcoming Montreal race weekend.
He said, “James Allison (technical director) and the guys on the race team are working really hard on this. They have looked at the various issues and are starting to have a really clear understanding about what is missing.”
Boullier also discussed their R31 car and said, “Our car is fast, sometimes very fast, and I'm confident we can put everything together to ensure we are quick at any given time. There's no magic wand, though, so we'll need to put in the hours in the wind
tunnel to get to where we need to.”
The German driver had a bad race weekend in the recently held Monaco Grand Prix, as he was unable to impress the team with his performance. The safety cars due to Vitaly Petrov’s crash in the closing laps of the race hindered his pace. Due to that, he could
only finish his race in the eighth spot for the team.
The 34-year-old driver’s race progress in Monaco was unimpressive for Renault, as they were expecting a podium place from him.
After a disappointing race weekend in Monaco, Renault have delivered some new parts to their 2011 car for the Canadian Grand Prix. They are hoping that the new upgrades will be helpful for the drivers over the race and that the team will get positive results
from there.
The Montreal race weekend will start on June 10, 2011 in Canada. Let’s see how the Renault drivers manage the qualifying round of the Canadian Grand Prix.
