Eric Boullier says Renault need to understand Nick Heidfeld’s concerns – Formula 1 news
Renault boss Eric Boullier has said that the team needs to know the concerns of Nick Heidfeld that why he was unable to perform well in recently held Monaco Grand Prix.
He also mentioned that although Heidfeld had an unproductive run at the Monte Carlo street track, the team is still expecting a lot from him for the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The team admitted that the German had a good pace during the Monaco GP, but they have no knowledge why he did not deliver on the grid. However, team Renault were pushed to think about what Heidfeld’s concerns were.
Apart from that, Boullier admitted that he did improve on his performance in Monte Carlo. The team boss also said that they were missing the leadership of his injured driver, Robert Kubica.
He added, “Robert was able to manoeuvre into a leadership role. He is demanding and knows in himself what he wants from the team. If he sees that things are not going well, he hits his fist on the table hard. But Robert is not here now.”
He also discussed the team’s other driver, Vitaly Petrov and said, “Vitaly needed someone who could tell him what time at the track he is expected in the morning so he's not late for meetings, how to organise his day and how to behave off the track.”
Renault were moving in the right direction when their driver Heidfeld registered a podium finish for the team in the Malaysian Grand Prix. After that, he seemed to be improving race by race and the team was hoping for another podium finish from the German
in the Monaco race weekend. However, due to an unsupportive behaviour of his R31 car, he did not manage a good run against the top runners of the sport.
Petrov’s accident during the last few laps of the race highly disappointed the team, as they were expecting a lot from him in the race.
Boullier said that he wants more from both of their drivers in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix which will take place on June 12, 2011 in Montreal.
