Eric Boullier says V4 good for 2013 but F1 interests not negotiable – Formula 1
Renault team boss, Eric Boullier, has voiced his favour for the V4 engines idea proposed by Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) boss, Jean Todt. Eric has said that Renault will be happy with the V4 machines but Formula 1 interests cannot be compromised.
Todt’s idea was heavily criticised by Formula 1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, and some of the Formula 1 teams, including Todt’s former team, Ferrari. Bernie and most other detractors said that the V4 will compromise the true spirit of the sport.
Eric has recently made the statement and said, “It is a complex debate, to be honest, and there is no easy answer. Renault as a car manufacturer is willing to go for the new regulations, and yes we can understand that there are a couple of reluctant teams.”
He further added that the cost will be cut down and smaller teams will have an easier time competing. This will make Formula 1 a truly global event.
However, Eric also voiced the same concern that Bernie mentioned and said that the sport’s spirit should not be compromised. “The only thing we need to make sure, which is one of the reasons I wanted to get involved more [at FOTA], is that we need to think
about F1 interests. That is the main thing – not personal interests,” said Eric who is the current vice-chairman of FOTA (Formula One Driver’s Association).
Eric cited an example of when all teams had to sign agreements for their annual spending. Eric commented that the teams will agree on a decision if a suitable picture is presented to them.
Previously, the Williams’ team also gave a vote of confidence to Formula 1’s transformation from V8 to V4. Adam Parr explained that the speed of the car will not be compromised as the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) will be four times more powerful
than what the teams use today.
The 2011 formula 1 season is on the way on V8 machines and the descion of V4 is considered final for now.
