Eric Boullier says start of European part of the season will see more upgrades – Formula 1
Renault’s team boss, Eric Boullier, has said that every team waits for the European part of the season to start and then the upgrades kick in. He admitted that although, recent years have shown consecutive developments, yet historically developments will
start to show up now.
In the first three races of the 2011 season, increased upgrades are already seen in different cars to improve their race speed and reliability but the main part of engineering masterpieces will be shown in the Turkish Grand Prix.
“I think that historically the teams were preparing to introduce their development packages for Europe. Teams have already been bringing new packages in Malaysia and China. Still, the first race in Europe remains significant”, Eric revealed what he thinks
about the Turkish Grand Prix.
He further added that small scale developments remain part of every race but major changes will be seen in the next week.
Talking about his team’s performance so far, Boullier said that apart from some hiccups in China where Nick Heidfeld crashed his car twice in one day, Renault team has performed well in the first three races of the season.
Renault team stepped into the season with an innovative exhaust system which improved their straight line speed and along with 2011 innovations, their car, R31, has shown good speed.
Eric stated that both drivers were well in contention of higher podium stairs in the first two races but a third place is still good. “I think that they can do even better. During the last three races, they were still getting to know the car and they showed
good pace and results. I’m pretty sure that they now have the near-to-victory taste in their mouths so they need to keep on pushing”, Eric commented.
As the European part of the season gets underway, the improvements in the cars and point’s table is expected as besides Renault, Ferrari and Mercedes are also watching the game’s prospects from behind and would love to have their name on top.
