Eric Boullier says team performance has improved due to new exhaust system – Formula 1 news
Team boss for Lotus, Eric Boullier, insists that their performance has increased since they installed the new exhaust system during the Korean Grand Prix.
Lotus team drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean, had both performed better in Korea. Raikkonen had finished at fifth while Grosjean had completed the race at seventh position finally overcoming his first lap incidents of this season.
“I think if we look at the last two or three races objectively then we've had our difficulties, but we've also seen a clear step forward in terms of performance with the new exhaust system in Korea,” said Boullier. “The team did a brilliant job to bring
such a significant upgrade to the race and make it work first time and there is still a lot more to come from this concept once we have had some more time to work with it.”
Boullier is not focused on winning the constructors’ championship but rather achieve something that is within their reach. The team is at fourth position right now and Boullier is interested in snatching the third position out of team McLaren’s hands. He
has expressed his confidence in the new system layout on previous occasions too and insists there is a lot more that they can still achieve from it.
Besides the new layout, the team also happens to be working on three cars simultaneously right now. Boullier says that they have been trying to balance between putting their best efforts in the upcoming four races and being strong for the next year too.
He admitted that it has been difficult to achieve that balance but so far the team has been managing all right.
The team boss while talking about the pressure on Grosjean this season requested that they need to move on from the issue and the driver himself needs to do the same. He showed his confidence in Grosjean saying that he has improved and learnt what he needs
to avoid in future races.
Boullier is very excited about the Indian Grand Prix that happens in a week. He said that India will prove to be good for Formula 1.
