Eric Boullier says they need to work hard in 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that they need to work hard in order to claim victory in 2012 Formula 1 season while he said that they have the potential to fight for the title this year.
Lotus have emerged as one of the most competent teams in the season so far with their pair of drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean and are presently standing at third place in the constructors’ championship with 84 points.
Moreover, they are currently 21 points ahead of Ferrari and 14 points behind McLaren.
In 2012, Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya, Raikkonen secured third podium finish after setting off from 4th grid position. On the other hand, his teammate, Grosjean came 4th after starting the race from 3rd place in the grid.
Even though, the Finnish driver was upset with his performance in the last race as he thought he could have performed better. However, Boullier said that he is not feeling disappointed as he believes that they can achieve victory in the approaching races
if they keep on making the necessary improvements and the substantial preparations.
“We are all here to win, but the pace of the cars is very tight. It didn't work out with the first two sets of tyres and we didn't have the pace that we expected. So from that point it is difficult to win. It is true that, when you see the pace at the end
of the race, when we were closing on the leaders, with three more laps maybe we could win. But this is racing. To win we need to keep working and we have to use the next opportunity to do it.”
The British team has performed quite consistently in the first five races of the season and can surely be considered as one of the most competent contenders for the championship title this year.
It will be important to mention that during the start of the season, Boullier said that they should not be seen as the second class team anymore as they have got all what it takes to be on the top.
