Eric Boullier still feels confident about new exhaust layout – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that they are still feeling confident about their new exhaust layout and believes that they can surely extract more out of it in the remainder of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Kimi Raikkonen of the Enstone based team could only secure fifth place finish in the Korean GP and expressed that he could not improve his position because he faced difficulties with his new Coanda-effect exhaust layout.
Nevertheless, Boullier said that they are still feeling optimistic about their novel exhaust design and said that Raikkonen and his teammate, Romain Grosjean will come up with it in the Indian GP. In addition, he said that they are hoping to get the most
out of their updates in the remaining four races of the ongoing season.
“The plan is to have them on both cars in India, and I have to praise team because we saw some bigger teams than us struggle for some races to get [Coanda-effect exhausts] to work. We know we can definitely get more performance from the car from now on thanks
to system,” Boullier said.
Even though, the British squad has not been as competitive as their main rivals, Ferrari and McLaren, in the last few races. Nonetheless, they are still feeling positive about closing the gap to the teams in the front in the forthcoming races and are targeting
to secure competitive position in this year’s championship fight.
Besides, the Frenchman said that they really need to work harder so as to be able to challenge their major opponents in the upcoming races.
“I hope so,” he explained. “But look at Korea: both Ferraris were in front of us, so they brought a lot of points back home. They are second in championship in front of McLaren, and we grabbed some points off McLaren which is good, but we need to be realistic.”
The season has been quite unpredictable until now and the competition is very tough. It will be interesting to see how all the contenders perform in the approaching races and who wins the championship titles this year.
