Eric Boullier sure Lotus will fight back – Formula 1 News
Eric Boullier is confident that Lotus will bounce back strongly in the next race despite being unable to deliver a strong result in the recently concluded Canadian GP.
Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes dictated terms in Montreal and none of the other teams were able to come anywhere closer to the podium.
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus finished in ninth place overall and was lapped by race winner Sebastian Vettel, which would have been a huge concern for the former driver, who is eying the second championship of his
career.
However, Boullier believes that things will be different next time around, as the track characteristics in Silverstone will not be the same as Canada.
Analysing the previous round, the Lotus team principal said, “Our pace was not so bad with Romain [Grosjean] in practice but, if you look at the race, we were 1.5 seconds slower than Red Bull and Mercedes. You
do not lose 1.5 seconds from one race to another one. It is just that something went wrong.”
He added, “We lost positions, so we have to work hard to keep the pace. But we know the car is competitive, and the team is competitive. There is no reason why we should not be back fighting for podiums. We didn't
have the five podiums in a row since the start of the season just by chance or coincidence.”
Raikkonen managed to start the season on high, winning the first race of the season in Australia. He handled the tyre situation than any other driver, which allowed him a chance to fight at the front. At that
point, it appeared that he would be the one to beat in 2013.
However, things kept on changing for the Iceman with the passage of time. As a result, he had to go on the defensive pretty early in the season. Unfortunately for him, nothing seems to be working now for Lotus
over the past couple of races, as the team has lacked the pace to match rivals in both qualifying and race pace.
If the Enstone based squad fails to be competitive over the next two rounds, Raikkonen will lose the opportunity of fighting for the title very soon.
