Eric Butorac/Bruno Soares down the German tandem to reach quarters – Grand Prix Hassan II 2012
Second seeded duo, Eric Butorac and Bruno Soares, trashed the German duo, Matthias Bachinger and Florian Mayer, with a breadstick at the Grand Prix Hassan II 2012 on Wednesday. They formulated a 6-1, 6-2 victory against the Germans to book a place in the
final eight at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 series event held in Casablanca, Morocco.
The America-Brazilian collaboration unleashed their true form at the Complexe Al Amal and tumbled over their opponents in 46 minutes. Encountering each other for the first time, the seeds comfortably advanced into the quarter-finals.
Butorac and Soares stepped on the clay courts with poise and held their opening serve to take the initial lead. After the Germans kept their serve in the second game, the higher ranked pair blasted powerful groundstrokes and angled shots to go on a five
game-rampage. They swiped in entire serves without facing any obstacle and capitalised on two out of three break opportunities to pull out the opener with a breadstick.
Ranked 12th in the ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, Butorac and Soares kept momentum rolling into the proceeding set and held their serve in the second game to level the scores at 1-1. They carved out the critical break in the third game and jumped
to a 3-1 lead. The American-Brazilian team then plucked remaining serves and after capitalising on another break opportunity in the seventh game, they clinched the set with a 6-2 score line.
Next up for the seeds is the Dutch junction of Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer who also crushed their rivals with a similar score line. Haase and Rojer devastated the local wild card entrants, Anas Fattar and Younes Rachidi, with a breadstick to set-up
this match.
The third seeded collaboration of David Marrero and Marcelo Melo will accompany Butorac and Soares in the last eight. They bounced back from a set down to manipulate a 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 10-1 score line against the German-Austrian pair, Christopher Kas and
Julian Knowle.
The third seeds failed to seek any break opportunity but dominated in the super tie-breaker to seal the victory.
