Eric Butorac/Jean-Julien Rojer clinch doubles title at Open de Nice Côte d’Azur
American/Netherland Antilles team of Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer grabbed their second title of the season as they downed Mexican/Spanish pair of Santiago Gonzalez and David Marrero in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the final
of Open de Nice Côte d’Azur at the Nice Lawn Tennis Club in Nice on Saturday. The match lasted for just an hour and 12 minutes.
Butorac and Rojer got to a good start as they broke their opponents in the fourth game of the opening set and consolidated on it to take a 4-1 lead. Gonzalez and Marrero came back strong as they claimed two successive games, breaking
the American/Netherland Antilles pair in the seventh game and reducing their opponents’ lead to 4-3. However, Butorac and Rojer broke again in the eighth game, serving out the set in the next game and capturing it 6-3.
The sixth ranked pair delivered a single ace and 89 percent of the first serves, bagging 76 percent of the points on them in the first set. Butorac and Rojer converted both break points they received and saved three of the four
break points on their own serve in the first set.
Gonzalez and Marrero broke Butorac and Rojer in the opening game of the second set, taking a 1-0 lead. However, the American/Netherland Antilles pair broke back immediately to level the score at 1-1. Butorac and Rojer broke again
in the eighth game and capitalized on it to seal the set 6-4.
The American/Netherland Antilles duo was erratic with their second serves as they committed three double faults in the second set. The second seeded team kept the first serve percentage at 60 percent and bagged 83 percent of the
points on the first serve in the second set. Butorac and Rojer capitalized on two of the four break point opportunities they created and saved two of the three break points they faced in the second set.
The American/Netherland Antilles pair claimed their second title of the year. They defeated Marc Lopez and David Marrero in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the final at the Estoril Open to capture their maiden title of the season.
