Eric Cantona dreads Manchester United future post Sir Alex Ferguson retirement
Former Manchester United striker Eric Cantona has revealed his fears about the future of the Red Devils. The Frenchman believes that his former side will be in trouble once manager Sir Alex Ferguson retires.
Cantona hailed his former boss, going so far as to compare the legendary Scot to Mahatma Gandhi.
Cantona said, “Today, he is like Gandhi on the game side. Ferguson is a kind of genius. He has had so many different generations of players now. He's 70 [later this year] and works with 18-year-old players, but still adapts himself to all generations.”
Sir Alex Ferguson is the most successful manager in the history of the Barclays Premier League, leading the Red Devils to a phenomenal 35 titles during his 25-year reign at Old Trafford. So influential is Ferguson that Eric Cantona believes no one will be
capable of filling his shoes once the Scot finally decides to retire.
Cantona played for the Red Devils for five years, earning himself an iconic status at the Club for his signature style of play. The Frenchman is not taking all the credit for his success though. Cantona claimed that it was Sir Alex Ferguson’s guidance that
led to such a fruitful time in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
He added, “Ferguson takes strong personalities and works with them psychologically. It is very important. It worked for me, 100 per cent. It was for the team. I accepted everything because he gave me freedom on the pitch.”
Even at the age of 70, Sir Alex Ferguson is showing no signs of slowing down. The United boss is on track to create history by leading the club to their record-breaking 19th Premier League title in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
The Red Devils are also within touching distance of the FA Cup and the Champions League crowns, ensuring that Ferguson has a great chance of adding to his trophy tally before the end of the current season.
Manchester United currently sit at the summit of the Premier League standings with 57 points.
