Eric Chavez or Alex Rodriguez for third base in ALDS – MLB News
It was the harsh experience for the New York Yankees to get out of the American League Division Series after losing to the Detroit Tigers in the five-game series. Many allegations were made on the club, their performance and the combination, but the no one
hit on Alex Rodriguez as hard as the club’s general manager Brian Cashman did on Tuesday.
After meeting with the agent of Roy Oswalt and the C.J. Wilson, Brian, in his media session on Tuesday, gave Eric Chavez value over Alex Rodriguez, but later he backed off on his statement. He was clearly making an indication to support the idea that the
Yankees might have won the series if Alex Rodriguez had been replaced with Chavez. Although the statement remains unclear for a few minutes, it was still a matter of intense argument.
"You could argue (Chavez) would have had a better Division Series than A-Rod because A-Rod just never got healthy enough,'' Cashman said. “Rodriguez batted just .11 in the ALDS and struck out twice in the final game, once with the bases loaded and once to end
the game. "Chavy might have been a better option there at the end.''
Reporters asked him the question if it is justified to enter a player in place of Alex Rodriguez in the middle of the season and it would have been valuable to bring Chavez, who has not played even a single full season since 2005. Cashman seemed to reverse
from his statement and said that they made the right decision keeping the star batter in the camp, as he belonged to the Yankees, but unfortunately the results were not up to the mark.
Cashman immediately turned in favour of the player, who will be 37-year-old next August.
"We'll get the real A-Rod back this year because obviously he'll have a full spring training,'' Cashman said. "If he stays healthy, he will be great.''
The Yankees are currently keeping their eyes on the pitching depth. To meet their expectations, the club is trying to introduce either Roy Oswalt or C.J. Wilson to their team in the next regular season.
