Eric Gerets rules out a return to Olympique de Marseille – Ligue 1 news
Former Olympique de Marseille coach Eric Gerets has said that he is not looking to make a comeback to the Rhone giants in the near future.
Geret’s name was shouted during Marseille’s Champions League game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Hilal-c38309.
Thought the former AC Milan player did not win any silverware as coach of Les Phoceens, Gerets is still a popular figure in Marseille and fans want the 57-year-old back at the club even though he never won a thing with the Ligue 1 giants.
The Marseille public has already made it clear to Didier Deschamps that his trophies won for Marseille do not necessarily raise his status in the hearts of the fans.
Gerets is currently the manager of Moroccan national side where he has lost just one game. While questioned by Moroccan newspaper Le Matin, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Atlas-c38538 Lions coach regretted the acts displayed by the Marseille fans.
“I would have preferred that there was nothing like that. As everyone knows, I am very attached to OM. I know that people have not forgotten me but it does not need any sign to prove it. They are in my heart and I in them and it will not change. I do not
know if it will change one day or not,” said the Belgian thus making it clear that he does not intend to make a quick return to Marseille.
Since then, Didier Deschamps has turned around the fortunes of Marseille after a catastrophic start to the new campaign. Deschamps is already under a lot of pressure after his much-publicised war of words with sporting director Jose Anigo.
However, Les Phoceens are now returning to their old self which bodes well for a coach who was about to leave Marseille at the end of the 2010/2011 campaign.
Gerets also said that he has a contract at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Morocco-c2961 which he means to honour.
“I intend to finish my contract with the national team (until 2014). Now if a big accident is to happen in CAN which raises questions in relation to my status, things might change. Today, I do not want to think about something that will probably not happen,”
Gerets said thus ruling out any return to Marseille.
With Morocco flying high and Deschamps’ managing to turn things around, it seems that it’s the fans at Marseille are the ones having a bitter taste in their mouths.
