Eric Gomez: Paul Williams is not afraid of anyone, will take on Nobuhiro Ishida – Boxing news
Paul Williams, the current world number four light middleweight, is a genuine brawler and is not afraid of anyone since he is the only pugilist who has graciously and aggressively accepted the proposal to take on Nobuhiro Ishida, former WBA World light middleweight
title holder, without generating lame excuses.
These comments were put forth by Eric Gomez, vice president Golden Boy and one of the renowned bout-makers in boxing world. Paul and Ishida are now scheduled to take on each other in a 12-round bout. The squared ring will be set up at American Bank Center
situated in Corpus Christi, Texas, United States.
Gomez was much happy and energetic on the fact that he has finally come up with an opponent who is not only aggressive and talented but also holds an intimidating and fan generating record. Eric had to go through a series of rejections when he was trying
to find a worthy opponent for the Japanese sensation Ishida.
Eric while sharing the obstacles he faced in his opponent-finding venture said that no one was ready to take on the Japanese orthodox everybody just put forth excuses that Ishida is either too tall to handle in the ring or he is a difficult opponent some
people also said that he is awkward when he is in the squared ring.
Golden Boy VP said that these aspects almost made him hopeless. Eric revealed that even James Kirkland, the American world number six light middleweight who got annihilated in the first round by Ishida after getting totally knocked out, was also not interested
in taking revenge or in settling the score against Nobuhiro.
Eric commented, “We tried so many things. We even talked to Kirkland about doing a rematch. He wasn’t too interested and that’s our own guy. But Paul Williams stepped up and said I want to fight Ishida. I don’t care who he is or who he beat, and I just want
to commend Paul Williams for that.”
Nobuhiro, 36, has an experience of 32 brawls. He has won 24 of his total encounters and collected nine victories by knocking the opponent out hence securing a knockout ratio of just 28.13 percent.
On the other hand, Paul, 30, infamous as the ‘Punisher’ is heavily armed with experience. He has entered a total 42 times in the squared ring and came out victorious in 40 bouts.
Paul has knocked out 27 opponents to secure a KO ratio of 64.29 percent. Both men will collide on February 18, 2012 and will constitute the main event of the pay-per-view.
