Eric Gordon all set to make a comeback against the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday – NBA Update
Going into Wednesday night’s game against the Orlando Magic, the New Orleans Hornets had not lost 12 games in a row since 1990 when they finished 19-63.
They needed a motivation to overcome the odds which were heavily stacked against them, and got one when their head coach Monty Williams announced that star shooting guard Eric Gordon is on the verge of a return from knee injury
and may be back as early as Saturday in the game against the Charlotte Bobcats.
“If I had to guess it would be Saturday against Charlotte,’’ Williams said before Wednesday night’s game against Magic as reported by Times-Picayune. “A lot of that is me, and we want to make sure that we bring him back when he’s
in a lot better shape. He’s spent so much time rehabbing and getting his quad stronger, but we have to make sure he’s in a good place before he comes back.’’
The Hornets had an excellent summer, one in which they roped the highest draft pick Anthony Davis and the number 10 pick Austin Rivers. They were also boosted by the arrival of sharp shooting forward Ryan Anderson and Robin Lopez.
However, injury issues to Davis and Gordon meant that Hornets could never take off. At present, they are 6-22, 3-11 both on road and at home, and have the worst record in the Western Conference.
Gordon has had a love-hate relationship with the franchise and its fans. The two guard, who was the pivotal part of the Chris Paul trade to the Los Angeles Clippers, has played only a handful of games with the Hornets so far, and
this off-season, he signed an offer sheet with Phoenix Suns and then publically stated that desert city is where his heart lies.
The Hornets, who consider Gordon as the pivotal part of their future along with Davis, were not impressed, but still decided to match the max-offer.
It was only recently when Gordon apologized for making those statements, and revealed that he had to do so, due to the waiting game which the Hornets management was playing.
Nevertheless, the guard is on the cusp of a comeback and Williams is hoping that Gordon’s return can spark the team;
"He changes the way we play with his ability to do a number of things,’’ Williams said of Gordon’s impending return.”Shooting the ball and attacking the basket and defending certain guys.”
