Eric Gordon comfortable in returning to the New Orleans Hornets – NBA Update
There was time when Eric Gordon and Blake Griffin were billed as the future of the Los Angeles Clippers. However all that changed when the Clips pulled off a mega deal involving Chris Paul and Gordon had to move to the Big Easy.
Nursing an injured right knee, on which he underwent an arthroscopic surgery, Gordon managed to play only nine games last season with an average of 20.6 points, and it was rumoured that the shooting guard would like to move to
Indiana when the free agency hits this summer.
However, the prospect of Anthony Davis heading to the New Orleans Hornets in this year’s draft seems to have changed his views.
Gordon was attending the annual Indiana-Kentucky boys’ All-Star game in Indianapolis, when he revealed to the Associated Press that he would like to stay in New Orleans;
"I do like New Orleans," he said. "It's a pretty good city with good fans and it's a good organization."
Gordon is a restricted free agent which means that the franchise can go to any length to retain their potential star.
"They've got all the cards," Gordon added. "But I wouldn't mind (going back)."
After a miserable last season, the Hornets have had it good. They got an owner in Tom Benson and then won the NBA lottery pick, which allows them to select anyone from one of the deepest draft classes ever.
The Hornets are expected to use their pick on Davis, who is already being touted as the next big thing in NBA. With players like Chris Kaman, Al Farouq Aminu and Trevor Ariza already available, the Hornets do look like a formidable
side. The franchise has plenty of role players as well and they make a trade to add some more useful pieces.
Gordon was at the heart of Clippers-Hornets trade this pre-season. The trade was called off the first time because the Clippers were not willing to add Gordon to the equation, whereas the Hornets were not budging on the deal without
getting the guard.
Eventually the lure of getting Chris Paul proved too big an attraction and Gordon had to make way. The player now admits that being trade was not what he had expected;
"The trade was something new for me; there were a lot of new situations for me. Hopefully, my next situation will be my destination for a long time."
