Eric Gordon not faking the knee injury; Calls it legitimate – NBA Update
Eric Gordon hasn’t had the best of times ever since he was traded to the New Orleans Hornets as part of the Chris Paul deal. And, when his name was announced in the season opener against the San Antonio Spurs yesterday, the home
crowd let him know where he stands exactly.
The talented shooting guard took part in only 9 regular season games for the Hornets last season due to a knee injury. He took part in the trails for the US Olympic team after the season and apparently aggravated his ailment. The
result is that Gordon has been unable to participate in any of the pre-season games for the Hornets and now claims that he does not see himself returning any time soon because of soreness in the same knee.
There are many people who believe that knee is not the actual issue and the fact is that Gordon is just unhappy with Hornets. The player however has come out to defend his stance;
"I know things haven't been going as well as hoped," Gordon said after team practice yesterday. "It's tough as a player to go through these things. You're looking for the best from yourself, and you look forward to doing what is
best for the team. As a player, I definitely look forward to helping this franchise and always look out for the best for this team. It has been very frustrating not to be able to play."
The main reason Gordon is finding it difficult to press his case is his off season position, which saw the guard press hard for a move to the Phoenix Suns in a deal worth $58 million for four years. He was however a restricted
free agent and the Hornets were in no mood to let their prized possession go.
Gordon was the major scalp for the Hornets in the CP3 trade. In fact the deal would not have materialized had the Clips refused to ship the shooting guard to the Big Easy. The Hornets had made it clear in the summer that they see
Gordon as their franchise player and would like him to build a formidable team along with Anthony Davis, the number one pick of this year’s draft.
It however seems that the desire to do so is only one sided, and all Gordon has done so far is to show his displeasure for blocking the Suns deal.
