Eric Gordon looking to help the number one pick to find his feet in NBA
Anthony Davis has had a really good year so far as far as basketball is concerned. First, he led Kentucky to the NCAA championship and was named the unanimous player of the tournament. Then, Davis was picked number 1 by the New Orleans Hornets at the 2012 NBA Draft in June, followed by an appearance for team USA at the 2012 London Olympics.
The Olympics were a great opportunity for Davis to witness NBA players such as Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, and have a look at their work ethic, their behaviour on and off the court and their interaction with teammates and the coaching staff. Davis will need all of this as he prepares to start his first season in the NBA.
Eric Gordon, the rising shooting guard of the Hornets, is looking forward to Davis joining the team for next season, and is also vying to help him out on the court.
Gordon, who was traded by the Hornets in exchange for Chris Paul at the start of the last season, sat out most of the season due to injury trouble. He was retained by the Hornets during free agency, and is now working hard to return to action at the start of the season. He knows that Davis is a young player who has tremendous talent, but will need all the guidance and help both on and off the floor in the coming years, and is more than willing to help him be the player he has the potential to become.
“And as a guard, we will come up with pick-and-rolls, stuff like that. I’m going to make it easier for him during the games,” said Gordon in an interview with Hoopshype.
Davis may be one of the most talented players in the NCAA, but NBA is a different ball game altogether and the big man will have to adjust his game as well as develop it if he wants to succeed in the grand league. He has the potential to succeed in the NBA, but will definitely need guidance and help during his first few years, and having a guard of Gordon’s calibre on the roster will help Davis get comfortable on the court.
