http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chicago-Fire-c38795 at Empire Field in a Major League Soccer meeting on Sunday, August 7. While many expected the Fire to reign dominant, it was the underdogs who rule on the day, sealing the game with a 4-2 score line.
The match started at brisk pace with both teams eager to register a win. It has been over a month since the Fire last won an MLS outing, while the Caps had only won two games prior to the most recent win over the Eastern Conference foes.
The Caps’ French import, Eric Hassli, netted the first goal just two minutes into the game. The player received the ball near the box and eluded http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sean-Johnson-c32690 and ushered the ball into
the corner of the goalpost for the opener.
The Fire made their first solid attempt on target in the 23rd minute and it happened to be the equalizer, thanks to the Caps sloppy defence.
Sebastian Grazzini threaded a ball to striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jay-Nolly-c18103.
The goal brought smiles to Fire bench but for only a minute as the home team struck back to restore the lead.
Gershon Koffie took a long range shot from almost 40 yards out, and it bounced once in front of Johnson before nestling in the goal netting to make the score line 2-1.
The match took a dramatic turn in the 43rd minute that saw lacklustre defence and marvellous goalkeeping skills. Cuesta dragged midfielder Camilo Sanvezzo down in the penalty area and Johnson made an excellent save on the spot-kick by diving to
his right.
After the break, Camilo avenged the final on him from earlier and slotted a low shot into the far side to change the score line to 3-1.
Hassli completed his brace in the 72nd minute, scoring the Caps fourth goal. The Frenchman received Camilo’s free-kick inside the penalty area but his first attempt ricocheted off the left post. The rebound, though, fell kindly at his feet and
he made no mistakes with the finish to make it 4-1.
Orr Barouch scored the consolation goal in 80th minute with a smart finish but it was too late to trigger a comeback from 4-2.
With the win, the Whitecaps improve to 3-11-9 (3 wins, 11 losses and 9 draws) but their status on the Western Conference remains unchanged at the bottom of the table.
The Firemen, in the Eastern conference, are also at the bottom of table with just two wins and a whopping seven losses.
