Eric Hinske shines as Atlanta Braves edge past Houston Astros 3-2: MLB Update
Atlanta Braves’ utility player, Eric Hinske was impressive with the bat as he went 3-for-4 and had an RBI single in the Braves’ 3-2 victory against the Houston Astros at Turner Field, Atlanta, on May 16.
After winning the game, Hinske spoke to the reporters and had this to say, “We're just trying to fill in for the guys who are down right now.”
The pitchers from both sides threw the ball extremely well and restricted the batters to score no run in the first four innings of the game. Matt Downs gave the Astros a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning by striking a one-run homer against the Braves’ starter
Tommy Hanson. It was the third homer for Downs in the current season.
Downs said of Hanson, “He's got good stuff. He's got great stuff. I just got a couple balls up in the zone and put some good wood on it.”
Joe Mather also shined with the bat as he made a two-run single during sixth inning to take the Braves to 2-1. Martin Prado was outstanding in the field as he stopped a grounder hit of Carlos Lee and got him out on the first base by an accurate throw. Downs
hit an RBI single during seventh inning to tie the game. Meanwhile, Hinske drove a shot for a one-run to again lift the Braves’ momentum; the score was now 3-2.
Jason Heyward joined the Braves in the eighth inning despite an opening spot for defensive play. He missed the last sixth start due to an injury on his right shoulder. The last two innings went score-less for both sides and the scoreboard stood still.
Hanson threw seven solid innings as he permitted two runs on three hits including one earned run. He had 10 strike-outs and gave away only one walk. Speaking to reporters, Hanson said, “I think the biggest thing was we got a little bit of momentum this weekend
against Philly and just wanted to keep rolling.”
Astros starter, Brett Myers also pitched pretty well as he allowed only two runs on eight hits in his six-inning pitches, but the relievers turned down the game by giving a tie-breaking run to the Braves.
