Eric Hosmer shines as Kansas City Royals defeat Boston Red Sox 3-1 - MLB Update

Kansas City Royals’ first baseman, Eric Hosmer displayed an amazing performance with the bat as he went 3-for-5 with an average of .283 and scored one run in the Royals’ 3-1 victory against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, Boston on July 25.
In the first inning, Miguel Cabrera singled to shallow right-field but Alex Gordon struck-out swinging and Billy Butler struck-out looking. Similarly, the Red Sox batters also got out at the bottom of the first inning without the addition of any run as Jacoby
Ellsbury grounded out to short-stop position, Dustin Pedroia grounded out to pitcher and Adrian Gonzalez struck-out swinging.
Red Sox scored their first run during the second inning to get a 1-0 lead when Josh Reddick drove a double-run shot towards right-centre and Carl Crawford posted one run. The batters failed to deliver their tricks from third to fifth inning of the game and
got out on their slothful shots.
During the fifth inning, Jarrod Saltalamacchia singled off right-field while Reddick was struck-out swinging and Pedroia flied out to right-field. On the other hand, the Royals tied the game 1-1 in the sixth inning when Butler doubled towards left-field
and Cabrera added a tie run. Later on, Butler got out moving to third base at the end of sixth inning.
The Royals missed the scoring opportunities at the top of the 10th inning when Alcides Escobar flied out to right-field, Chris Getz popped out to second base and Gordon grounded out to second base. The game remained level until the 13th
inning as the pitchers tossed curveballs at the feet of the batters to limit their scoring shots.
In the 13th inning, Ellsbury walked but David Ortiz grounded out to second base and Yamaico Navarro fouled out to first base. At last, the Royals went ahead 3-1 by exploding two runs at the top of the 14th inning. Mike Aviles hit a
sacrifice bunt towards second base and Hosmer completed a leading run. The second run was taken by Jeff Francoeur when Escobar hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field.
The Royals’ starter, Kyle Davies threw six innings with an ERA of 6.75 and presented just one run on five hits with one earned run. He gave up only one walk and struck-out six batters on his 104 pitches. However, the Royals got a 1-0 lead in the four-game
series played at Fenway Park.
