Eric Lethander and Joe Bonk clinches Men’s 50m butterfly gold – YMCA National Championship
Eric Lethander and Joe Bonk clinched gold medal of the Men’s 50m butterfly on fourth day of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Thursday, July 26.
Lethander of Powel Crosley-OH and Bonk of Triangle Area-NC outsmarted their opponents in the shortest butterfly discipline as they showed urgency towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
The duo remain engaged in a stroke-to-stroke battle from the start of the race and cruised their way towards the finishing end for first position. With their epic pace, they remained one stroke ahead of their following rival and tapped the finishing wall
with an identical effort of 25.29 seconds for gold medal.
Their title claiming effort remained 0.19 seconds ahead of Sam Lynch of Red Bank-NJ, who settled on the finishing end as bronze medallist by producing a fantastic time of 25.48 seconds.
The 16-year-old Lynch was followed by Leo Lim of Wyckoff-NJ, who stayed 0.38 seconds slower and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by posting a time of 25.86 seconds.
Subsequently, Lim was followed by Alex Mathews of Triangle Area-NC, who remained 0.08 seconds slower and finished fourth in the discipline by submitting an effort of 25.94 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was secured by Billy beard of Boyertown-PA, who stayed 0.05 seconds apart and hit the wall with an effort of 25.99 seconds.
Beard was trailed by Ian Wooley of Countryside-OH, who secured seventh fastest spot of the event by posting a time of 26.02 seconds.
Wooley remained just 0.05 seconds lucky from his teammate, Christian Josephson, who transpired on the finishing end as eighth position holder with an effort of 26.07 seconds.
The 18-year-old Josephson was followed by Joe Dunn of Fanwood Scotch-NJ, who gained ninth place of the race by clocking a time of 26.28 seconds.
Last position of the discipline was obtained by Michael Skibniewski of West Monmouth-NJ, who finished his race in tenth place with an effort of 26.37 seconds.
In addition, Lethander was very excited after winning gold medal of the 50m discipline.
