Question:

Eric Lindros vs. Peter Forsberg?

I was just looking at The Hockey News's Top 100 hockey players of all time and noticed that Eric Lindros is ranked 54 whereas Peter Forsberg isn't even on the list. I found this a little puzzling and looked at their stats.

Forsberg - 706 games played - 885 points

Lindros- 760 games played - 865 points

Forsberg - Two Stanley Cup Championships and 4 International play Gold Medals.

Lindros - Zero Stanley Cup Championships and 3 International play Gold Medals.

How is it possible that Lindros is 54 and Forsberg isn't even anywhere on the list?

  1. That poll you're referring to was that taken in 1998?

"In 1998, Lindros was ranked number 54 on The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players of all time."

I'm sure they would have a different opinion now.1998 was one year after the Flyers made it to the Cup finals.

  2. It would be quite possible if Lindros' mom worked for the Hockey News.

I imagine there are other names on there that should be behind Forsberg, why question just Lindros?

  3. That's very shocking!  I  think Forsberg is a better player in my opinion.

  4. I think that list came out in 1998, in connection with THN's 50th anniversary, before Forsberg had built up his qualifications.  I also think they were estimating what Lindros was going to do, more than what he had already done.  As we now know, he did little after that.

  5. Very good question.

My only guess is that Forsberg had a great supporting cast for his career.  There were simply great people around him.  I believe he was one of the great people.

In my opinion, (I'm a lifetime Flyers fan), Lindros never really amounted to much more than a very very good roleplayer.

I hope you just missed Forsberg's name on the list - that's a shame.

  6. Because Lindros is Canadian? I don't know. THN is usually good at this stuff. I've always been a big Forsberg fan, I used to be a big Avalanche fan when I was young.

  7. Whoever made that list screwed something up. Good call man.

  8. I think if Lindros and Clarke weren't always after each other and Lindros stayed healthy, his stats would well exceed Forsberg.

Most media at the Hockey News are a bunch of idiots....so don't sweat it.
