Eric Maynor, Nate Robinson:
Oklahoma City Thunder Players who need to up the ante next NBA season
Eric Maynor
Eric Maynor was picked up as 20th overall from the 2009 NBA Draft and was traded immediately to Oklahoma City Thunder in the same year.
In Maynor, the Thunder have a player, who has the ability to spread the floor and provide a more than suitable back up to the starting point guard Russell Westbrook. Maynor only had 12.9 minutes on average last season. However,
when he did get the opportunity to make it count late in the playoffs, the combo guard ensured he made good on that.
Deep into the playoffs, the Thunder were struggling on their offense, the weakness being the selfish play of Westbrook. In the series against the Dallas Mavericks, Westbrook was denied the luxury of penetrating the arc and instead
of passing the ball on to Durant, Westbrook consistently tried jump shots. Things got so much frustrating for OKC, that Scott Brooks had to bench Westbrook for the entire fourth quarter in game-3. This gave Maynor the window of opportunity and he utilized
it.
Maynor, despite being only 6 ft 3, brought an extra zip on the defence and also made some crucial shots. The result was the Thunder won the game and kept the series alive.
In that little span, Maynor proved that he is up for challenge now and what the Thunder need to do is to give some more minutes. This will not only take the load of Westbrook, it will also keep him honest.
Nate Robinson
The 27 year old Nate Robinson is also a point guard, but in terms of experience he has an edge over Maynor. In addition to that, Robinson also possesses a better scoring rate than Maynor, 11.3 points per game.
Nat had a scoring average of more than 12 points per game until almost the mid of the 2009-10 season, However, his performance declined after being traded for two times.
First the New York Knicks traded him to the Boston Celtics in the middle of the 2009-10 seasons. The C’s then traded him to the Oklahoma City after just 55 games. Robinson played just four games from the Thunder in the previous
season during which he tallied just 3.3 points per game.
He didn’t get a proper chance to sow his true abilities after his departure from the Knicks, but that doesn’t make him a bad player. Robinson definitely has what it takes to come in for Russell Westbrook.
