Eric Prindle versusThiago Santos bout declared no contest – Bellator 59 Recap
The Bellator Fighting Championships produced an event Bellator 59, which was held on November 26, 2011. The fight was for the heavyweight tournament final between Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos. Both fighters are eager to win the
bout in order to gain a heavyweight title fight in the future. The fighters took their stance inside the octagon ring and get ready for the bout. The Brazilian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Santos looked in good form as he faced the American MMA fighter
Prindle in a main card event of the night.
As the fight began, the fighters were throwing their punches and kicks. Their punches do hit their opponents but they were not that impactful. In the early goings of the fight, Santos, nicknamed Big Monster, hit some punches of
his own as Prindle avoided some punches but a few punches did gave some blows to Prindle. The American MMA fighter, nicknamed the American Soldier, was taken down by the Brazilian MMA fighter but Prindle was back on his feet. Santos, who measures at 6ft 3in,
managed to take down Prindle but the American escaped the lock and again took a vertical base.
The Brazilian fighter made use of his ground wrestling techniques. He was able to apply his ground moves effectively. As Prindle went down, Santos began his ground attack. He used his punches and kicks to keep the American Soldier
down for some period of time. It looked as if Prindle would not get back up, but that did not happen.
Prindle kept his guards to sustain the attacks, which Santos was relentlessly carrying out. The left and right shots along with the kicks and knee shots were keeping Prindle down but he stood up because of his large size and height
advantage. Prindle, who measures at 6ft 5in, had an obvious two inch height advantage which helped him release himself from Santos’ clutches.
Once more when the two fighters took their vertical stance in the ring, the fight took a serious turn. Prindle’s offensive tactics were frustrating Santos as the American was difficult to tackle. Santos could not put Prindle down
on the mat permanently. As the bout entered in the second minute, Santos drove his feet for a kick but miscalculated the target. Santos’ kick hit Prindle’s groin and the American fighter went down. He did manage to get up but the doctors advised Prindle not
to carry on with the fight.
The Bellator officials declared that the kick by Santos was hit by accident as the bout was announced as a no contest. The two fighters will meet each other in a re-match but the dates have not been finalized yet. It is, however,
expected that their bout will take place in 2012.
