Eric Prindle vs. Thiago Santos for the second time at Bellator 61 on March 16 – MMA News
Bjorn Rebney’s Bellator Fighting Championship, America’s apex mixed martial art promotion organisation after Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has revealed its main event for its season six’s second pay-per-view, Bellator 61.
The bout, which will give its winner the right to take on the reigning Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad, will be place between Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos
This main event was recently announced by the concerned authorities along with a few more details. The event is scheduled to take place on March 16, 2012 after March 9’s Bellator 60 pay-per-view. The stage will be set at the Horseshoe Riverdome Arena situated
in Bossier City, Los Angeles.
The event which will most probably be sandwiched between the middleweight quarter-final bouts is being considered as the most important one in the whole of Bellator 61 special edition. Prindle, 35, has been in a total 11 fights, emerging victorious in nine.
He has gained six victories over his opponents by knocking them out cold.
On the other hand his competitor Thiago Santos, infamous as the Big Monster, has experienced 12 challengers. He conquered 10 of his opponents emphatically by either making them submit or by kayoing them out. Both men have almost the same experience but the
interesting aspect that gives the duo an upper hand over each other is their tactic of taking on their opponents.
Eric, widely known as The American Soldier, is an expert in knocking out his opponents by his vicious punches and ferocious kicks. He brutally assaults his opponent and tries to capture a win in a swift manner. Thiago, the black belt owner in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
is however a bit different. He does not rely on the power game rather he uses his submission manoeuvres to grab a win over his opponent. It is this reason why five of his wins came by submission.
Both men will take on each other to resolve a past dispute, a clash which ended in a No Contest and since then has been a matter of contention between the two heavyweights. In Bellator 59, the last pay-per-view of season five which was held on November 26,
2011, the two huge brawlers fought to become the number one contender for the heavyweight title.
Things didn’t go well since the intensity of the fight led the American Soldier strike a kick in the groin portion of the Big Monster which led the latter unable to carry on the fight. The referee was left with no option but to halt the brawl. Bellator 61
main event will be a re-match of that no contest bout and will finally decide who is worthy enough to tackle Cole Konrad.
The event will be televised on MTV2 and on Spike.com. In addition to the above the extravaganza will also witness the winners of the quarterfinals who will then proceed in the semi-finals to get the middleweight title shot.
