Eric Ress snares Men’s 200m backstroke gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale
Eric M Ress of Santa Clara Swim snared gold medal of the Men’s 200m backstroke on day four of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, July 15.
Ress displayed his stupendous efforts in the backstroke event as he outsmarted his challengers and proved his mettle for gold medal of the discipline.
The 21-year-old Ress stunned the aquatic crowd with his gruelling form in the four-lap backstroke discipline as he stepped on the victory stand for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.98 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Carlos T Omana of Metro AC Miami-F, who stayed nearly three seconds apart and occupied silver medal of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 04.01 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Matthew Thompson of West Florida Lighting, who remained 0.91 seconds behind and seized bronze medal of the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 04.92 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Quinn Cassidy of Saint Andrew’s-F, who was five body lengths apart and hit the finishing wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 09.83 seconds.
The 16-year-old Cassidy was chased by Alex W Dehner of Area Tallahassee, who stayed just 0.07 seconds slower and ended fifth in the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 09.90 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Jean Lui Gomez of Naco-ZZ, who remained 0.63 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 10.53 seconds.
Gomez was chased by Nick C Carter of Westminster Academy, who remained prominent for seventh position of the discipline and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.35 seconds.
Eighth position of the swim was secured by Julian Radice of Metro AC Miami-F, who remained three body lengths behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 15.52 seconds.
In addition, Ress was extremely pleased with his victory and said that he would continue his efforts to excel in his main event at the upcoming championships.
