Eric Reynolds beats Jonatas Novaes at Xtreme Fighting Championship – MMA News
The Xtreme Fighting Championship (XFC) hosted an event XFC 15 on December 2, 2011 in Tampa, Florida. The event featured a bout between Brazilian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters Jonatas Novaes and American martial arts fighter
Eric Reynolds. The bout went for three rounds with Reynolds coming out as the winner.
As the bout began, both fighters were going well with their attacks. They were not in a hurry for a win and did not secure an early breakthrough. They were steady with their moves and tried their best to remain apart from each
other, as they feared for a takedown by either one of the opponents. Novaes has been an expert in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, was creating some sort of intimidation with his expertise in jiu-jitsu over Reynolds. The former Bellator Fighting Champion, Reynolds was
going great in the opening round of the bout.
The three-time champion at the Bellator Fighting Championships was effectively countering all the attacks, which Novaes was throwing at him in the fight. Novaes focused on the weakness of Reynold, which was his arm. Novaes felt
that Reynold’s arm was a bit rusty and he concentrated on Reynold’s arm throughout the first round. Novaes also tried to apply the armbar submission move where he tried to put his injured arm under pressure, but did not succeed. The first round ended with
both fighters coming back on their feet after some blows.
With the second round in progress, Novaes started his attack on Reynolds from the rear. This time, Novaes made his strikes at Reynold’s back. This gave the former Bellator Champion no room to defend himself. Reynolds made a swift
move and separated himself from Novaes, giving him room to carry out his defensive moves. Reynolds sent some hard knocks at Novaes’ feet that tipped his balance. The second round ended but none of the two fighters could prove their dominance.
As the third round went underway, Novaes was in pursuit of submission moves. He grappled Reynolds and took him down, but Reynolds reacted fast and came out of Novaes’ clutches. Novaes also took Reynolds down and tried to apply
the submission moves but failed again as Reynolds was not giving any room to Novaes in locking his submission manoeuvre. He also tried his best to lock Reynolds in his arm-triangle chokehold but could not succeed. Reynolds got bruised but was able to come
out of all three rounds on his feet. The judges unanimously gave him the win in the bout.
