Eric Shanteau secures Men’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day two – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Eric Shanteau of Trojan Swim Club secured gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Friday, May 11.
The 28-year-old Shanteau demonstrated his gruelling efforts in the 100m discipline as he ensured his place on top of the podium for gold medal.
With his nerve-wrecking pace, he enjoyed a lead of almost full body length over his strongest challenger and tapped the finishing end for gold medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 00.46 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Mark Gangloff of NY Athletic Club, who stayed 0.95 seconds apart and touched the finishing wall with the timing of 1 minute and 01.41 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was followed by Brendan Hansen of Longhorn Aquatic, who remained almost 0.10 seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 01.51 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the event was secured by Christian Schurr of Longhorn Aquatic, who was nearly half a body length away from his foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 02.08 seconds.
With his persistent efforts, Schurr remained 0.19 seconds faster from Barry Murphy of Una CW-MI, who proved his eligibility for fifth position of the 100m event by hitting the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.27 seconds.
Murphy was chased by Carlos Almeida of Cardinal Aquatic, who ended his swim in sixth best place by reporting a time of 1 minute and 03.30 seconds. Seventh position of the breaststroke swim was secured by Bradley Craig of Tennessee Aqua-S, who remained just 0.16 seconds behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 03.46 seconds.
Craig was followed by Andrew Bree of Trojan Swim Club, who failed to upset any of his competitors and emerged on the finishing end as eighth position holder with the timing of 1 minute and 03.69 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship will conclude on May 13 after the completion of all swimming events in Men and Women’s category.
