http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils, the bottom finishers of last season, were the most consistent performers of the league phase of this edition, finishing the round-robin stage with 11 wins in 16 games.
However, the DD head coach insisted that his team’s excellent performance in the league stage would have little bearing when they take on second best, Kolkata Knight Riders, on Tuesday.
“KKR have depth in their batting and bowling,” said Simons while speaking to media persons at the pre-match press conference on Monday.
“Gambhir has played really well for them, Narine has been brilliant and everyone else has come to party at various stages during the league to win games and put the opposition under pressure. We have to respect them and their ability as an individual and
as a unit,” the Delhi head coach insisted.
Simons, who also had a stint with Indian cricket team as bowling coach, said that Twenty20 cricket is a fast moving game where the momentum can swiftly change from one team to another. Citing the example of Deccan Chargers’ upset victory over Royal Challengers
Bangalore on Sunday, which knocked RCB out of the tournament, Simons said that they have to respect every team, regardless of their standing on the points table.
"It is rewarding that we finished on top, but in Twnety20 you don't really get a platform. The match between RCB and Deccan Chargers showed that. There was one team doing great and other team was struggling. Yet Deccan Chargers came out on top," he said.
The 50-year-old former South African bowler also urged players to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 to their basics during the knock out stages of the esteemed Twenty20 league to end on the right side of the contest.
