Eric Young wins final stage and Scott Lyttle takes overall lead in 2011 Tour De Toona
Bissell Pro Cycling team’s Eric Young won the third and final stage of 2011 Tour De Toona in Criterium, while Scott Lyttle takes overall leader’s jersey.
Eric Young took a total of 1 hour, 3 minutes and 3 seconds to cover the distance of 56 kilometres.
Ty Magner of Type 1 Development was the runner-up and Roman Van Uden of Pure Black racing finished in the third spot.
Young told the media, "Frank led it through the last corner and that was it, Pure Black had controlled most of the race and had their riders up at the front for most of the day. It was a matter of us coming over the top of them and controlling the last couple
of laps."
Keck Baker (XO Communications/Battley H-D) showed his good effort and tried his best to catch the nine cyclists, but he failed to maintain his pace and grabbed tenth place with a difference of 10 seconds, ahead of Jacob Mueller and Anthony Hall.
A group of three cyclists made their first breakaway including, Frank Pipp (Bissell Pro Cycling), Brett Tivers (Garneau-Club Chaussures-Norton) and Daniel Barry (Pure Black Racing). All of them gained a lead of few seconds over the peloton and Brett attacked
the peloton, but failed and Frank took the first sprint.
After a few kilometres, Chase Pinkham increased his pace and took the second sprint ahead of Frank. Brett Tivers took the third and Patrick Bevin took fourth sprint of the stage. However, Shaun Mc Cartty and Patrick Bevin worked together for a lead and Shaun
took the fifth intermediate sprint.
In last few kilometres, Eric Young was able to maintain his pace and with the help of Bissell Pro cycling team, Young crossed the finish line ahead of other cyclists.
Scott Lyttle took the overall lead with a timing of 8 hours, 5 minutes and 35 seconds. Chris Baldwin of Bissell Pro Cycling was in second place with 37 seconds adrift, while Brett Tivers of Garneau-Club Chaussures-Norton finished third with 52 seconds behind
Scott.
Scott said, "The competition for third and fourth place between Pinkham and Brett Tivers was very close and that meant they were going for the time bonuses and they were important. That helped us because they wanted to keep the field together too so they
could get time bonuses."
Joseph Rosskopf (Team Type 1 Development) was leading in the point’s classification with 26 points ahead of Scott and Chris Baldwin.
