Erica Morningstar and Paul Biedermann impress in Berlin:  2011 FINA World Cup
Erica Morningstar of Canada and Paul Biedermann of Germany performed well in their respective swims at the seven stop 2011 FINA World Cup series in Berlin, Germany, on Saturday, October 22. The session of meet conducted Women’s 200m Individual Medley and
Men’s 400m freestyle finals.
Morningstar captured the gold medal in 200m IM by touching the finishing wall in a nerve wrecking time of 2 minutes and 06.97 seconds, while Sophie Allen of Great Britain claimed silver title by thrashing the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 08.78
seconds. Korea’s Ra Choi Hye picked bronze medal in a time of 2 minutes and 08.98 seconds, whereas, Izumi Kato of Japan settled for fourth place in a time of 2 minutes and 09.27 seconds.
Theresa Michalak of Colombia performed up to the mark and earned fifth place honours by hitting the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 09.32 seconds. Aimee Willmott of Great Britain grabbed sixth position with a mark of 2 minutes and 11.90 seconds,
while f***y Lecluyse of Belgian settled for seventh spot in a time of 2 minutes and 14.74 seconds. Last, but not the least, the eighth position went to Korea’s Yeong Kim Seo in 2 minutes and 18.21 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Men’s 400m freestyle crown was clinched by Germany’s Paul Biedermann with a thrilling time of 3 minutes and 41.19 seconds. Great Britain’s Ross Davenport claimed silver title by thrashing the finishing wall in a winning time of 3 minutes and
44.78 seconds, while the bronze title went to Serbia’s Stefan Sorak with a matchless mark of 3 minutes and 45.04 seconds.
Sergii Frolov of Ukraine gave an impressive attempt in the respective meet and picked fourth spot in a time of 3 minutes and 45.49 seconds, while Yuya Horihata of Japan earned fifth position by touching the finishing wall in a time of 3 minutes and 45.50
seconds.
The sixth position went to Austria’s David Brandl, whereas, Christian Kubusch of Colombia earned seventh spot by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 47.77 seconds. Finally, the eighth place went to Denmark’s Frans Johannessen in a time of 3 minutes and 47.84
seconds.
Owing to their scintillating swims, both Erica Morningstar and Paul Biedermann were honoured with golden crowns and cash prizes after the session’s completion. The 2011 FINA World Cup is a thrilling world series for all participating nations as it provides
their swimmers with an opportunity to prepare well for upcoming meets.
