Erica Morningstar prevails in Women’s 200m IM heats - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Erica Morningstar of UCSC prevailed over her challengers in the preliminary rounds of Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day four of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Friday, March 30.
The 23-year-old Morningstar stifled all hopes of her competitors by occupying top qualification spot of the 200m discipline. With her invincible efforts, she faced no trouble in reaching the wall for first position.
She clocked a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 14.27 seconds to make her way into the playoff. Her effort was trailed by Julia Wilkinson of IS, who stayed 1.23 seconds slower from Morningstar and tapped the finishing wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 15.50
seconds for second position of the discipline.
Similarly, Wilkinson remained 0.29 seconds ahead of NKB’s Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson, who sprinted her way into the playoff as third best finisher of the discipline by concluding her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 15.79 seconds.
In the meantime, Alexa Komarnycky of IS claimed fourth best qualifying position of the discipline as she stayed almost one second behind and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 16.47 seconds.
The fifth qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Marni Oldershaw of OAK, who proved her eligibility for the fifth best spot of the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 16.96 seconds. Maria Fernanda Gonzalez Ramirez of Mexico managed to
qualify as sixth best swimmer into the final round as she clocked a time of 2 minutes and 17.47 seconds.
Melanie Dodds of LOSC surfaced on the finishing end as seventh best qualifying swimmer as she ended her sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 17.50 seconds.
Hanna Pierse of VAND stayed 0.15 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher as she ended her sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 17.65 seconds to enter the playoff.
The session ended after the conclusion of all listed events while these finalists will race each other in the playoff, where fastest two finishers will ensure their place in Canadian team to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
