Erick Silva silences Charlie Brenneman for good, makes him submit via rear-naked choke – UFC News
Erick Silva, the Brazilian UFC welterweight pounder, put forth the Florida mixed martial art fanatics an epic performance and collected the submission of the night honour by making Charlie Brenneman submit in the very first round via rear-naked choke, in
a three-round bout held on June 8, 2012.
The duo was given the responsibility to co-headline ‘UFC on FX3: McCall vs. Johnson’ pay-per-view. The octagon for the showdown was set up at BankAtlantic Center situated in Sunrise, Florida, United States and was televised live on FX channel.
Silva, 27, was entering in his careers 17th bout and boasted 13 wins. The young Brazilian pounder is a submission specialist and has proved at least one man with great authority that his judo and jiu-jitsu is impressive and can nail even the best.
It was Charlie who before the bout claimed that he will admit his fallacy and misconception about Erick’s ground game skills if the Brazilian proves it by nailing him in the June 8 bout. To most of the critics Silva has definitely not only proved his brawling
skills but now has also grabbed media’s due attention as well.
Erick was entering in his third UFC bout and was on a somewhat daunting task to skim off the last bout’s disqualification loss. His opponent, Charlie was entering in his career’s 19th bout and boasted 15 wins.
Also known as ‘The Spaniard’, Charlie is a UFC veteran and was coming from a unanimous decision win over Daniel Roberts. The bout started and from the very first second Charlie, as he vowed, moved forward for a takedown attempt.
Silva nicely countered it by his knees and a wave of well-placed jabs. As soon as Charlie moved back Silva threw a spinning kick which was efficiently capitalised by Brenneman who later on grabbed Erick and took him down on the octagon floor.
At almost four minutes and 33 seconds of the very first round, Silva moved over Charlie’s back to apply his lethal rear-naked choke. Thanks to Silva’s direct knee that connected Charlie and flattened him on the octagon floor.
With this win Silva is now back on the win track and has started his journey towards the top ranks of the welterweight division. Charlie must now again go through a grappling or wrestling session so as to sharpen his techniques.
This was Erick’s second UFC and career’s 14th win whereas Charlie has received his fourth career loss.
