I have been trying to find a good reliable board to start out on as i begin to surf. I have found 3 different boards at decent prices. They all are about the same size. These 3 boards are Erie, Quiet Flight, and a Matt Kechele board. I am looking for a board that will be both reliable and easy to learn to surf with.

  1. Try a 9:Fish Surfboards Koi (http://www.9fishsurf.com/koi.html). It's a great board to learn on because it's so easy to paddle and catch waves.  It's reasonably priced and is made of epoxy, so it's really durable.

  2. I would stay away from the kechele for a couple of years.  If you really think you want to surf you should go for a yancy spencer epoxy or a flying pig.  An epoxy board is more boyant and easier for a beginner and Yancy Spencer has great epoxy boards.  The flying pig is a glass board and its big.  You want something bigger when your getting into it.  The pig or spencer would be great boards for a beginner.  Dont go out and buy a quick short board--you wouldn't enjoy the sport.  Go longer than 6 & 1/2! The spencer and yancy are mid sized boards and seasoned surfers would recognize them.  They have a good rep. anyway enjoy your new hobby.
