Erik Cole and Montreal Canadiens dominate Ottawa Senators 5-1 -NHL Update
Montreal Canadiens were set right from the beginning of their Friday night matchup against Ottawa Senators. Erik Cole definitely wowed everyone in the Bell Centre in Montreal with the quickest hat trick in the history of the Canadian franchise as Canadiens
dominated Senators, 5-1.
Erik Cole fired off three straight goals coming right into the matchup in the opening six minutes, writing a new record in history for the team and at the same time, forcing Ottawa Senators to substitute goalies and hope for a better performance. Ben Bishop
was taken out of the net after playing for 15 minutes, bringing Craig Anderson in.
"I'm glad we don't play them anymore," Senators coach, Paul MacLean. "They certainly bring the worst out in us and tonight we weren't as prepared to play the game and we didn't play with enough discipline."
Going up against Montreal is always a tense situation for Ottawa, something they should use to their advantage seeing how pressurised situations can get in the postseason.
"Pressure's a wonderful thing," MacLean added. "You can find out a lot about yourself and about your team, and how hard it is in the league. For some reason we feel we have that on us and we have to find a way to handle it or channel it into the right spots."
Petteri Nokelainen added Montreal’s fourth straight of the night and his third of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season. Jason Spezza capped off the first with an Ottawa goal with less than 13 seconds remaining to play and entered the
30 goal boundary.
Lars Eller was the last to score and for another Montreal goal, the crowd easy saw that Ottawa had just given up as player fought and roughed each other up on numerous occasions as tensions rose.
Montreal Canadiens are way out of the playoff race and having won their first matchup in four nights, they can expect to face another loss against Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
Ottawa Senators have the next at home against a hot Pittsburgh Penguins team the same day, which should not be an easy matchup for them.
