Erik Koch, can the American do the unthinkable by nailing returning Jose Aldo? – UFC Special
Jose Aldo, the current UFC featherweight champion, is scheduled to defend his title after the gap of almost nine months against Erik Koch, in a five-round bout which will be held on October 13, 2012.
This will be Jose’s fourth title defence bout in a row and the Brazilian pounder is looking forward to protect his sweet number one divisional spot and title at all costs. Aldo is coming off a bit tough time of his career as he has recently recuperated from
his left thigh injury.
Aldo was all set to take on Koch on July 21, 2012 at UFC 149 but the muscle stretch sprain forced the 25-year-old belligerent to postpone the bout. The upcoming October engagement is basically the rescheduled date of the UFC 149 postponed event.
Aldo recently gave a detailed interview in which he though did not shed substantial light over his upcoming opponent yet did share some personal views and opinions on various sizzling questions.
Also known as ‘Scarface’, Jose is considered as one of those lucky guys who have excelled in their profession big time by their hard work and sheer determination. Aldo, who also won the World Extreme Cagefighting’s featherweight title, has been in a total
22 mixed martial bouts, boasting an impressive rather intimidating 21 wins.
Aldo will make a comeback against quite a simple name who in various aspects lacks the ability to nail him. Although Erik is ranked as the eighth best featherweight in the world still he does not possess certain requisite aspects that are much needed to
grab a win over talented and versatile Jose Aldo.
Jose even does not know much about his opponent. One reason might be that he is just returning to the training camp after long injury and therefore does not know much about Erik but still the quote clearly shows the impression that Aldo does not consider
Koch as a serious threat.
Aldo, during a detailed interview stated, “Erik’s is a great opponent. I know him since WEC, but I haven’t really taken a good look at him yet. In the future, when we get together, I’ll see what he’s like and then I’ll tell you. For now, I know him as a
friend. I talk to him like I talk to everybody.”
At the moment, any comments about Aldo’s presumably supreme form would be premature however, a glance at the technical details and stats can tell us whether Erik has a chance over Aldo or not.
First and the foremost aspect is Jose’s experience supremacy over Erik. Jose has taken on almost double the number of opponents than the number faced by Koch. Erik, also known as ‘New Breed’, has been in a total of 14 mixed martial art bouts, boasting 13
wins.
Furthermore, Aldo has collided with much better men then those taken on by Erik. Aldo’s last bout with Chad Mendes is a perfect example that Jose has the ability to nail even the third best featherweight in the world.
In addition to the above, there is one significant aspect that gives both men upper hand over each other. Aldo is a knockout specialist which means that Erik needs to protect his chin from powerful mind jolting jabs.
At the same time, Koch has a decent grip over submission tactics and therefore has a strong ground game as compared to Aldo. The bout will definitely be a tough one and if Aldo successfully nullifies Erik’s submission attempts, no one can stop him from retaining
the title for the fourth consecutive time otherwise the UFC fanatics will witness the biggest upset of the year, chances of which quite frankly are nil.
