Erik Morales: I am going to do whatever I have to do to win against Lucas Matthysse – Boxing news
The Mexican boxing legend Erik Morales, who is the former WBC Silver World Light Welterweight Champion and the former five-time world champion at WBC and WBO Super Bantamweight, WBC Featherweight, WBC Super Featherweight and the IBF Junior Lightweight divisions,
has vowed he will win against Lucas Matthysse on September 17, 2011.
Erik Morales, who is also a former WBC International welterweight champion, is set to take on the current WBO Inter-Continental Light Welterweight Champion, Lucas Matthysse, on September 17, 2011 at the Staples Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The chief of Golden Boy Promotions, Richard Schaefer, was looking for Victor Barros but he found Matthysse instead of Barros, as Barros was unavailable.
Matthysse has won 28 of his 31 professional fights including 26 by the way of a knockout and Morales knows it is not going to be an easy night for him.
The El Terrible, Morales, who has won 51 of his 58 fights including 35 by the way of a knockout, told the media Matthysse is a very tough opponent than Barros but on the same note the Mexican combatant said he will win the fight by hook or by crook.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “When we were first talking about this fight, we were talking about an opponent who wasn't easy, but not as difficult as Lucas Matthysse.”
“People question me, but I know that I love to fight and I want to fight. I will be ready September 17. The Mexicans can have a great party and celebrate when I am victorious. I am going to do whatever I have to do to win,” he said.
The 34-year-old Morales is getting into the ring after a long break and therefore he desperately wants to put on a great show for the audience.
Matthysse remarked, “I am very excited to be here and to be boxing again. I was away for two and a half years, but I had a lot of desire to do great things again.”
