Erik Morales: This is the most important fight of my career – Boxing News
In a press conference in New York, legendary Mexican fighter Erik Morales was present with his upcoming opponent Danny Garcia, the current WBC and WBA light welterweight titlist. While Erik Morales and Danny Garcia kept their calm and were respectful towards
each other, Morales’ father Jose Morales started the verbal assault at Garcia.
“Erik never had any problems with any fighter he faced. He was coming back from [gall bladder surgery] three months before he fought. The end result was Danny Garcia took advantage of that situation and took the belt,” said Jose Morales, who was trying to
defend his son’s defeat last year against Garcia.
The comment made Garcia furious, as the WBC champion believed he defeated Garcia fair and square. Contrary to the general, Garcia did not eat his words but cried out loud against Jose’s speech.
“You know it’s funny, someone always seems to have an excuse after I beat them. I know this, my father would never let me fight if I just had surgery. I’m undefeated and I’m still going to be undefeated after I beat Erik Morales,” said Garcia.
Garcia anger was justified, since most of his opponents always come up with excuses to defend themselves. Garcia is undoubtedly one of the fiercest warriors in the boxing industry, who actually deliver brutal beatings to his opponents.
Garcia fought Morales last year, when he won the WBC crown. Even though Garcia did not perform as good as everyone expected, he still managed to ensure victory against Morales. It was the first major victory in Garcia profile, which was followed by another
stunning victory over Briton fighter Amir Khan.
Garcia defeated Khan on July 14 this year to win the WBA light welterweight title. While most analysts were doubting Garcia’s capabilities, the unbeaten American proved he actually is the number one pound for pound fighter in the light welterweight division.
He knocked out Khan brutally in the fourth round. A hug left hook to Khan’s neck dismantled the Briton and gave Garcia the chance to beat him up further.
Unfortunately, instead of being praised Garcia was again criticised and called ‘lucky’.
