Erik Spoelstra says the Miami Heat are only going to get better – NBA Update
Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra has every confidence in his players and believes the team as a whole will get better and better with time. The Heat head coach aired those views in an interview, in which he also discussed how
the fans were the most important thing for everyone in the NBA.
Miami Heat made all the headlines last summer.
Not only did they manage to convince Dwyane Wade, a NBA Finals MVP and one of the best players on the planet, to sign an extension, they also added to their roster with two super star acquisitions.
All-Star forward Chris Bosh came in from the Toronto Raptors, where his contract had run out, but the biggest name to don a Miami shirt was LeBron James. The former Cleveland Cavaliers messiah left Ohio to bring his talents to
South Beach, and he indeed has some amazing talents.
All of a sudden Miami were the new power house in the NBA, with a team full of match winners and expectations sky high.
When the season started, the Heat struggled to gel. But, as it went on they became better and better at playing with each other and dominating games all over the NBA. Spoelstra, who had his doubters, oversaw that improvement from
the sidelines and believes that was a good sign for Miami.
"We got better every single month and not every team can say that," Spoelstra said. "We came together with nine new players with a big goal, but we also wanted to make sure that we're progressing and working to get better.”
Miami’s campaign was immensely successful, but ultimately disappointing when weighed up against the massive hype built around the team. In a season when Miami were public enemy number one, nothing short of an NBA World Championship
would have passed as a success. Unfortunately for the Heat, they fell just short of that goal in a 4 – 2 NBA Finals loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
Still, Spoelstra believes the team will be back for more next season, and the process of having played a whole season together will only help them in future quests.
“I think that'll help us this season, the fact that we spent almost nine months together on that journey and the journey didn't end. It's just beginning."
Spoelstra, who couldn’t directly comment on the NBA because of David Stern’s gag order, preached the fans to remain patient and stressed their importance to the whole of the league.
"Be patient. We're close," Spoelstra said. "We all miss it, but we'll all be back at this soon. And our fans mean the world to us. That's why we're trying to get out in the community as much as possible, to connect.”
In the meanwhile, they can catch one of the many exhibition games NBA players have arranged all over the country.
