Erika Erndl wins Women’s 100m butterfly prelims – US Open Swimming Championships
Erika Erndl of T2 Aquatics-FL won the preliminary rounds of Women’s 100m butterfly on day three of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Thursday, August 9.
Erndl stayed prominent for the fastest qualification spot throughout the race as she faced no competition from her challengers in the double lap butterfly event and reached the wall for first position.
The 34-year-old Erndl enjoyed a half body length lead over her following swimmer and tapped the finishing blockade with an effort of 59.48 seconds to enter the playoff.
Her epic pace placed her 0.47 seconds faster from Olivia Scott of Auburn University, who qualified into the final round as strong contender for second position by producing a time of 59.95 seconds.
Scott was chased by Kelsey Floyd of University of Tennessee, who remained just 0.02 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher over the wall and completed her swim in third best place by reporting a time of 59.97 seconds.
Floyd was trailed by Lyndsay De Paul of Una MVN-CA, who remained 0.41 seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.38 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth best qualifying position of the event was secured by Anna Senko of Bluefish Swim Club, who remained just 0.03 seconds apart and made her way to the final round with a timing of 1 minute and 00.41 seconds.
Senko enjoyed an advantage of only 0.01 seconds over Bianca Casciari of Team Bruin-CA, who finished sixth in the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 00.42 seconds.
The 21-year-old Casciari was traced by Merritt Krawczyk of Penn State University, who was 0.12 seconds slower and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 00.54 seconds.
Krawczyk was followed by Jasmine Tosky of Palo Alto Stanford, who was 0.05 seconds apart and clocked a time of 1 minute and 00.59 seconds for eighth best qualifying place.
Erndl was delighted with her fastest qualification effort in the prelims and articulated that she would try to grab gold medal in the playoff.
