Erika Reineke retain overall lead of 2012 Laser Radial World Championship – Sailing Update
First day of the 2012 Laser Radial World Championship brought America’s Reineke Erika on top of the fleet standings. The US sailor was outstanding on the Boltenhagen waters in Germany and with some impressive sailing skills she was able to grab the leading
spot in the event.
The second day brought some ideal wind conditions over the racing area and the participants were able to complete the scheduled races on time.
Reineke earned 81 points after completing six races including a discard. She began the regatta with a 25th finish in the opening race which seemed very poor start. However, she bounced back brilliantly in the second race and hit a fifth podium
place in the second race to move up in the standings.
Another 25th finish in the third race troubled her standing position but she continued to work hard and overcome her weaknesses in during the regatta which paid her back in the end. The American sailor took 12th place in the fourth
race to clinch the top podium place in the overall standings.
Reineke was in a strong position in the fleet and was aiming to retain the top place among the Laser Radial participants. However, the fifth race did not go according to the expectations and she again finished on number 25 but this finish did not affect
the overall results.
A 14th podium finish and a discard race in the sixth beat were enough to keep her on the top podium. Her primary goal is to maintain the position and finally grab the trophy.
