Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson secures Women’s 400m IM gold: Day two – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson of Go Kingfish secured gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Friday, July 20.
The 17-year-old Seltenreich-Hodgson remained prominently ahead of her competitors from the start and hit the finishing blockade for gold medal.
She went on a rampage in the eight-lap IM event and secured top position of the discipline by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 44.55 seconds for the title of the discipline.
The gold medallist was followed by Breanne Siwicki of MANTA, who stayed almost two body lengths apart and snared silver medal of the event by touching the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 46.79 seconds.
Siwicki was trailed by Genevieve Cantin of Rouge Et Or, who stayed almost five seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing blockade as bronze medallist by producing a time of 4 minutes and 51.83 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Marni Oldershaw of Oak, who stayed just 0.23 seconds slower from her and reached the finishing end for fourth position by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 52.06 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the discipline was secured by Sydney Pickrem of Neptune, who stayed 0.74 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 52.80 seconds.
The 15-year-old Pickrem was chased by Paige Schultz of TSC, who stayed 0.51 seconds apart and completed her race by touching the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 53.31 seconds for sixth position.
Schultz was trailed by Annie Harrison of OAK, who stayed 1.21 seconds behind and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 54.54 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Lindsay Delmar of UCSC, who was considerably slower from her former finisher and posted a time of 4 minutes and 57.32 seconds.
In addition, Seltenreich-Hodgson expressed contentment over her blistering performance at the medal distribution ceremony of the tournament.
