Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson wins Women’s 200m IM gold – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson of Canada won gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on fourth day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday, August 26.
The Canadian swimmer faced no trouble in overpowering her strongest swimmer over the finishing blockade and made her way to the wall for the crown of the event.
With a considerable improvement in her pace in the playoff, Seltenreich-Hodgson remained more than a body length ahead of her challenger and secured the title.
She remained dominant over her opponents throughout the discipline and made her way to the finishing wall for gold medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 12.93 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 1.11 seconds faster from Chihiro Igarashi of Japan, who stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 14.04 seconds.
Igarashi was followed by Celina Li of USA, who remained only 0.12 seconds slower and proved her eligibility for bronze medal of the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 14.16 seconds.
Li was trailed by Kaitlyn Jones of USA, who stayed 0.15 seconds behind and settled on the finishing wall as fourth fastest swimmer by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 14.31 seconds.
Subsequently, Jones was trailed by Kotuku Ngawati of Australia, who stayed just one stroke apart and ended up her swim in fifth best place by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 14.64 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was secured by Rika Omoto of Japan, who stayed 1.06 seconds behind and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 15.70 seconds.
Omoto was trailed by Sydney Pickrem of Canada, who completed her swim in seventh place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 15.75 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Keryn McMaster of Australia, who stayed nearly one body length apart and reported a time of 2 minutes and 16.67 seconds.
In addition, Seltenreich-Hodgson was pleased with her title claiming effort on second last day of the tournament.
