Erika Torrellas earns Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day one – Venezuela Open Championships
Erika Torrellas of MAXVI earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly in the 14 and Over category on foremost day of the Venezuela Open Championships in Maracaibo on May 17.
The 19-year-old Torrellas displayed her commendable efforts in the double lap butterfly event and proved her eligibility for gold medal of the event.
Torrellas, who qualified as the fourth fastest swimmer into the playoff, elevated her efforts in the final lap and paved her way to the victory stand for gold medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 01.67 seconds.
The champion faced tough competition from Elimar Barrios of MASBO throughout the event but managed to outperform her over the finishing end. Barrios remained just 0.02 seconds away from the gold medallist and tapped the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.69 seconds.
Her furious effort remained 0.13 seconds ahead of Wendy Rodriguez of PIBOL, who followed her former finishers on the victory stand for bronze medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 01.82 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Jeserick Pinto of SCLN, who was 0.23 seconds slower from overpowering the bronze medallist and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 02.05 seconds.
The 22-year-old Pinto was followed by Isabella Paez of EMIL, who was just 0.05 seconds slower from her and settled on the finishing blockade as fifth best finisher by reporting a time of 1 minute and 02.10 seconds.
Paez was chased by Eliana Barrios of MASBO, who was full body length behind and hit the finishing blockade with an effort of 1 minute and 02.23 seconds for sixth position.
Subsequently, Barrios enjoyed an advantage of almost 2.50 seconds over Wilmary Gonzalez of NSCMI, who proved her eligibility for seventh position by posting a time of 1 minute and 04.79 seconds.
Gonzalez was trailed by Paola Perez of TIBTA, who finished eighth in the event with an effort of 1 minute and 05.03 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all events while the winners received medals after the session.
