Eriko Hirose and Kaori Imabeppu win the Women’s Singles first round: 2011 India Open Super Series
Japan’s Eriko Hirose and Kaori Imabeppu win their first-round matches of Women’s Singles in the 2011 India Open Super Series, on Wednesday, April 27. The fifth seed, Hirose, took 53 minutes to beat Adrianti Firdasari of Indonesia a three-set match, whereas
Imabeppu took 66 minutes to thrash Nichaon Jindapon of Thailand in a similar fashion.
Hirose opened her campaign in the event by playing against Adrianti in the first round. The un-seeded Indonesian surprised the Japanese by playing a flawless game in the opening set of the match. At the end of the first half of the set, Adrianti was ahead
by 11-8. She continued her superb performance after the interval and won the first set with a 21-18 margin, in 23 minutes.
Stung by the loss of the first set, Hirose bounced back in the second set by playing an attacking game. She remained ahead of Adrianti in the entire set by accelerating her pace. The Japanese clinched the second set in just 13 minutes, by a one-sided score
of 21-8.
In the third and final set, both ladies came close in the first half at 10-10. After the break, Hirose geared up her speed by laying a better game and won the final set with a decent margin of 21-16, in 20 minutes. The concluding score of this thrilling
56-minute battle was, 18-21, 21-8 and 21-16.
In another match of Women’s Singles, Imabeppu managed to win against Jindapon in three sets. Thai lady played impressive game in the opening set of the match by leaving no room for the Japanese and finished it with a 21-18 margin, in 25 minutes.
Imabeppu made a tremendous comeback in the second set by playing aggressive game. She dictated the pace of the game by increasing her speed and levelled the match by winning the second set with a big margin of 21-11, in just 15 minutes.
In the third set, both shuttlers progressed in the match at an even pace and reached at 17-17. At this breath-taking stage of the match, Imabeppu remained composed and played a much better game in the end and edge past the set by 21-19. The ending score
of this 66-minute battle was 18-21, 21-11 and 21-19.
