Eriko Hirose beats P. V. Sindhu in opening round of Women’s Singles event – China Open Update
Japan’s talented campaigner Eriko Hirose had a perfect start in the Li Ning China Open as she outclassed P. V. Sindhu to gain access to the pre quarter-finals on Wednesday, November 14, 2012.
This opening round match proved a tough trial for both contenders as it prolonged to three gruelling sets before ending with final figures of 22-20, 14-21 and 21-19.
Both Women’s Singles experts remained head-to-head for one hour and six minutes in the local badminton complex of Shanghai.
They made the crowd gasp with their breath-taking performance and earned great deal of admiration for this commendable show of skills.
The Japanese campaigner prevailed in the opening and ending games whereas the opposing shuttler ruled the court in the second set.
Eriko Hirose, who is an unseeded player in this tournament, showed great fighting spirit and clinched this first match point despite of staying at the lower end in most part of the game.
Initially, the Indian shuttler bagged three consecutive points and established an early grip. Sindhu played with similar conviction in the next couple of rallies and managed to place an indomitable total of 11 before the interval.
Later part of the game saw her struggling and allowing her rival to bounce back. Her fluctuated performance paved path to victory for Eriko Hirose who finished this set with 22-20 score on the board.
However, Sindhu showed a strong character in very next game and counter-balanced the situation by claiming this crucial match point.
This time she did not give her challenger enough time to get settled and laid the foundation of her supremacy with 11-6 margin.
After the mid-game break, she pushed Eriko Hirose in all areas of the court and put a convincing figure of 21-14 on the board.
It was do or die situation for both contenders in the decider as they were standing on the same level with 1-1 score.
They stood toe-to-toe in most part of the game and this nerve-racking set ended when Eriko Hirose registered a winning margin of 21-19.
Now she will face a real challenge in the pre quarter-finals as the top seeded Chinese player Wang Yihan will be waiting for her.
