Eriko Hirose tames Busanan Ongbumrungpan in second round of Badminton Asia Championships
Japan’s lofty shuttler Eriko Hirose continued her impressive performance and reached into Women’s Singles quarter-final after showing exit to Thailand’s Busanan Ongbumrungpan in second round of Badminton Asia Championships 2013 in Chinese Taipei, on Thursday,
April 18.
The in-form Eriko, who is the seventh seed in Women’s Singles main draw of the tournament, did not show any sign of confusion at any stage in the whole match and easily ended up the fight while taking the court time for just 37 minutes.
Eriko played some of the best strokes at the initial stage and got over the control. She remained in complete command of rallies in this round-of-16 contest and won it easily with a superb margin of 21-13 and 21-15.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Busanan failed to play aggressive badminton as she committed many unforced mistakes. Mustering it further, she could not cope up with the pace of rallies and eventually lost the fight in straight sets.
It was an interesting fight in the initial points when Eriko showed attacking display of her craft on court.
Eriko was incredibly quick in getting the bird early and she did not encounter any complication in placing her strokes in right areas.
It was Eriko who did not show any respect to her passionate challenger in the first part and clinched a comfortable lead on score board.
Busanan tried to play attacking badminton but remained unable to take charge of the game and remained trailing in the concluding part.
The positive and aggressive play of Eriko assisted her to bag the opening game with a sound margin of 21-13.
Busanan increased her speed to play smart badminton in the first part of second set but she failed to build pressure on her opponent.
Until the one-minute interval, the lofty Eriko continued playing with command and variations and remained ahead on the board.
The aggressive and positive play in the ending part of second set helped Eriko to take the set with a superb margin of 21-15.
In the quarter-final contest, the in-form Eriko will lock horns against the India’s lanky shuttler P. V. Sindhu who stunned the third seeded Chinese shuttler Wang Shixian in a thrilling rubber-set match.
